After careful deliberation, <br /> the Civ~ic Arts Co~ittee~ recommsnded an~d. the. Portsmouth Museum <br /> and Fine Arts~ Co~ission approved the following~ a~rt~ists and <br /> artwork for.installatioR -at these locations: <br /> <br />Huma~Servic~Cente~ <br /> Ms. Maggie. Smith <br /> Seattle, Washington <br /> Installation of ceramic "Quilts" <br /> <br />$24,000 <br /> <br />Willett Hai~ Interior <br /> Mr. J~seph Detwiler <br /> Fredi~ksburg, Virginia <br /> Installation of untitled <br /> fired ceramic whiteware <br /> with vermiculite <br /> <br />811,500 <br /> <br />Willett Hall Exterior <br /> Mr. Michiel Van der Sommen <br /> Chatham, Virginia <br /> Installation of bronze <br /> sculpture <br /> <br />$62,500 <br /> <br /> I believe that both the Subcommittee and the Museum and <br />Fine Arts Commission should be commended for- their extensive <br />st~y ~nd identification of appropriate pi~ces of a~t' f~r~h~se <br />~w~ public buildings. Ma~y t~ousands of citizens ~rom across <br />the City will be able to enjoy them for years to come. <br /> <br /> Accordingly, I request that City Council adopt a motion to <br />award the contracts totaling $98,000 to the artists as <br />specified above." <br /> <br /> Dr. Ben A. Foster, J~'~/ 215 West Road, C~ha~i~man of the <br />Civic Arts Committee, gave a presentation of the ar~ to be <br />purchased and spoke in support of the project. <br /> <br /> <br />
