While attendance is dropping <br />at the Naval Shipyard Museum-, visitation continues to grow at <br />other museum facilities where exhibits change. Consideration of <br />a new exhibit design would provide for the following: <br /> <br />better fn%erp~etation of existing a~ti-facts <br /> <br /> - a chronological <br />visitors' understandin~ <br />naval histor~ <br /> <br />order to the exhibits to enhance the <br />and appreciation of Portsmouth's- <br /> <br /> an opportunity to receive objects on long-term loan from <br />the U. S. Navy and ~he Maritime History division, of the <br />Smithso~ian Institution <br /> <br /> a~,~ccasic~n~-~f~r publ, icit~ and~promotion"o~ew~ <br />stimulating exhibi't~' at the'Muse~m~'~ <br /> <br /> AccDrdingly, the Museum and Fine~ Arts Commission proposes <br />that $108,00~ ~emai~i~ from the o~i~i'nat approp~ation~n~b~e~ <br />Capital Improve~en~F~nd be utilized for~ ~,new exhibit de~ig~ <br /> <br /> I con¢~r~i%h~th-is reComm~ndat~oh~, a-nd thergf~re~, ~, <br />encourage your approval: of a motion to-authorize use of these <br />funds for this purpose." <br /> <br /> Jean Knapp, 320 Court Street, representing the Museum & <br />Fine Arts commission spoke in support of the ordinance. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Hawks, the <br />followino ordinance was approved on first reading, and by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ~RDINANCE-TO APPROPRIATE $108,000. FROM THE CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION ©~F.
