Gr.ants Fund for the <br />operation of the Summer Lunch Program by the Parks and Recreation <br />Department from June 26,. 1989 through August 4~ 1989. <br /> <br /> "The Dep~rtment of Parks & Recreation is applying for funds <br />from the United States Department of Agriculture to provide for <br />lunches during the summer to Portsmouth youths who live in low <br />income areas of the City. An application for '$127,853 in federal <br />funds w~}l permit us to serve 2,390 meals per day for six weeks at <br />twelve different sites, all of which are located <br />in areas where more than fifty percent of the regular public <br />school population was eligible for free or red~ced price lunches. <br />No lo~al cash match is required by th~ grant. ~ <br /> <br /> The annual Summer Lunch Program helps to meet the nutritional <br />needs of children during the su~rmmer and promotes a constructive <br />group activity for the youngsters. The project period is June 26, <br />1989 thru August 4, 1989, for a total of twenty-nine days. The U. <br />S.
