Eberwine, Jr., Earnest <br />~Ha~dee, Johh Hat~her, Sand~e Lee Sprinkle, Danny Cruce, <br />Executive Director - <br /> <br />Absent: Rita Scott Forrest, McFall C. Gourdine <br /> <br />Mayor Webb offered the following comments: ~-~ <br /> <br /> "On behalf of City Council and the Portsmouth Redevelopment <br />and Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, I take this <br />opportun~ty~to- welcome-you to,th~s PubTic Hearing on the 1990 <br />proposed Community Development Block Grant Program~ Notice of <br />this Public Hearing was published in the September 14th and 15th <br />issue of the Currents.. <br /> <br /> Portsmouth anticipates receiving $1.6 million in community <br />Development Block Grant funds. This ~mount, in addition to <br />proceeds expected to be received from the sale of Community <br />Development project'area land and a contribution of Capital <br />Improvement Funds, would place the City's 1990 Community <br />Development Program at an estimated total level of s2.1 million. <br /> <br /> Your-comments or'recommendations on the proposed Community <br />Development activities as well as any other comments are welcome. <br />However, before we accept your comments, I would like to give <br />Chairman Robinett of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />authority Board of Commissioners an opportunity to comment." <br /> <br /> Chairman P. Ward Robinett, Jr.~ comments: <br /> <br /> "Thank you, Mayor Webb., ,The.Boa~d of Commissioners is <br />pleased to participate in tonight's Public Hearing. As the Mayor <br />has indicated, the purpose of tonight's Public Hearing is to <br />receive citizen comments regarding the ~990 Comm~n. it~ Development <br />Program being proposed jointly by the City of Portsmouth and th~ <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The 1990 <br />Community Development Program year affords an opportunity to ~ <br />continue aggressiv~~ ongoing ~r~vitaliz~t~io~ activities in a number <br />of communities throughout Portsmouth. These activities are of <br />critical importance in our efforts to improve the o~erall economi~ <br />and well-being of our City." <br /> <br /> Joh~ F. Bailey, Jr., 203 Dixie Avenue, representing the Mapl, <br />Shade/West ~rove area spoke concerning the s~,atus of Country <br />Villa~ge'. <br /> <br /> Katura Carey-Harvey, 1900 Columbus Avenue, representing PARC <br />Place Shelter, spoke concerning the housing shortage and lack of <br />affordable housing. <br /> <br />No action taken. <br /> <br /> <br />
