<br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Simpson, minutes
<br />of a Called ~%esting of September 11, 1989; Public Hearing of
<br />September~'ll, ~g8'9; ~-Ca'll~d M~t~ of.'Septembe~ 1~,-~989;~and
<br />a Regular meet~n~ ~f~Sept~mber~'12~ ~-9~, to~ be approved~s
<br />received, and was adopted by unanimous vote.

<br /> 89-386 - Presentation of Resolhtion to Morton V. Whitlow
<br />in recognition of the late Venable Whitlow.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Hawks the
<br />following resolution was adopted and by the followin~ vote:

<br /> "WHEREAS, on the 22ndd~y Of Ju~y,~l~989, dea~h~ brought
<br />a close the active life of Mrs. Venable Morton Whitlow, a
<br />resident of Portsmou'th; and ...... ~ - · .....

<br /> WHEREAS, Venable Morton ~hitlow~erve~ t~e C~%y~ of~'
<br />Portsmouth and its citizens with distinction as an educator,
<br />School Board Member, and leader in civic and.~ul~ur~ ......
<br />activities; and

<br /> WHEREAS, she gave generously of her time and energy in the
<br />interest of the Citizens of the City; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the ~t~ture she ~t~ained in the community by her
<br />exemplary life and monumental-ac~-evements were well recognized
<br />during her lifetime; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the community has suffered a great loss in the
<br />passing of Venable Morton Whitlow and join with her family,
<br />friends, and associates in mourning her death.
<br />
<br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
<br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the sympathy Of this body, acting
<br />for the citizens of this City be and hereby is extended to the
<br />family of the late Venable Morton Whitlow.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread
<br />upon the Minutes of the Council, and that a copy thereof be
<br />presented to her family, in recognition of her service and
<br />respected stature in this community."
