The responsibility of overseeing the Portsmouth Adult Drug Treatment Court will <br />rest with the Third Judicial Circuit Court of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $182,500 FROM THE <br />OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF THE SUPREME COURT OF <br />VIRGINIA AND TO APPROPRIATE SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2009-2010 GRANTS <br />FUND FOR USE BY THE THIRD JUDICIAL CIRCUIT COURT FOR THE <br />PORTSMOUTH ADULT DRUG TREATMENT COURT." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />09 - 418 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept a grant in the amount of $25,855 from the <br />Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and to appropriate $20,815 in the FY <br />2009-2010 Grants Fund for use by the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for the V- <br />Stop Program. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has received a grant from DCJS for continuation funding <br />of the V-STOP Grant, administered by the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney. <br />. This grant program has grown over the last several years to serve over 600 <br />victims annually, and to train police officers annually while coordinating up to 3 STEP <br />Council meetings for the remainder of 2009. <br />. This program provides support, training, education and prosecution of violent <br />crimes against women. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The V-STOP Grant will provide for one part-time paralegal/prosecutor dedicated <br />100% to the Grants objectives. <br />. It is estimated that this program will serve in excess of 600 victims annually. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. Local cash match from Asset Forfeiture Account in the amount of $1,424. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />. Adoption of ordinance to accept a grant from DCJS for $25,855 and to <br />appropriate $25,855 in the Grants Fund for the V-STOP Program.
