<br />March 24. 2009 <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />. Adoption of a resolution. Vision Principles: Lifelong Learning Community <br /> <br />Next Steps: <br />. A certified copy of the resolution will be transmitted to VDOT so that they may <br />proceed with the transfer of their portion of Coast Guard Boulevard to City. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA <br />REQUESTING THAT THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA AND/OR THE VIRGINIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CONVEY TO THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br />THAT NEW PORTION OF COAST GUARD BOULEVARD CONSTRUCTED <br />PURSUANT TO PLAN 0164-124-105 RW201 ON PROPERTY OF THE <br />COMMONWEAL TH. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation has re-routed and <br />constructed a portion of Coast Guard Boulevard in the City of Portsmouth pursuant to <br />Plan 0164-124-105 RW201 on property of the Commonwealth of VirginiaNirginia <br />Department of Transportation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is desirous of accepting ownership of the <br />new portion of Coast Guard Boulevard from the Commonwealth of Virginia and the <br />Virginia Department of Transportation. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth <br />that it hereby requests that the Commonwealth of Virginia and/or the Virginia <br />Department of Transportation convey to the City of Portsmouth that portion of Coast <br />Guard Boulevard as re-routed and constructed pursuant to State Highway Plan 0164- <br />124-105 RW201 in compliance with Section 33.1-89B of the Code of Virginia, as <br />amended." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />09 - 168 - Adoption of a resolution of the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, in <br />support of the addition of 21 psychiatric beds in a new dedicated 75-Bed Psychiatric <br />Patient Tower at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Vision Principle: Thriving <br />Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community; Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The operation by Bon Secours of the Maryview Medical Center in the City of <br />Portsmouth as a primary care facility has a nearly 65 year history. The acute <br />psychiatric services have been available since 1968. This entity has and continues to be <br />the primary entity that provides the services and addresses the medical needs of the <br />residents of Portsmouth and in part the surrounding Hampton Roads community. <br />Maryview Medical Center has the distinction of being the only hospital in the City. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The administration of Bon Secours hereby requests the Portsmouth City Council <br />to adopt a resolution of support for the additional 21 beds as a part of the new 75 Bed <br />Psychiatric Tower. The expansion of beds is being pursued to satisfy the current and <br />future needs for psychiatric care in the region. These additional beds will elevate and <br />enhance Maryview's capacity and ability to host patients requesting and requiring <br />psychiatric care. <br />
