A certified copy of the resolution will be transmitted to VDOT so that they may proceed with the transfer of their portion of Coast Guard Boulevard to City. Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, to adopt the following resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: "RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA REQUESTING THAT THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA AND/OR THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CONVEY TO THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH THAT NEW PORTION OF COAST GUARD BOULEVARD CONSTRUCTED PURSUANT TO PLAN 0164-124-105 RW201 ON PROPERTY OF THE COMMONWEAL TH. WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation has re-routed and constructed a portion of Coast Guard Boulevard in the City of Portsmouth pursuant to Plan 0164-124-105 RW201 on property of the Commonwealth of VirginiaNirginia Department of Transportation; and WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is desirous of accepting ownership of the new portion of Coast Guard Boulevard from the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Transportation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth that it hereby requests that the Commonwealth of Virginia and/or the Virginia Department of Transportation convey to the City of Portsmouth that portion of Coast Guard Boulevard as re-routed and constructed pursuant to State Highway Plan 0164- 124-105 RW201 in compliance with Section 33.1-89B of the Code of Virginia, as amended." Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None 09 - 168 - Adoption of a resolution of the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, in support of the addition of 21 psychiatric beds in a new dedicated 75-Bed Psychiatric Patient Tower at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community; Bold New Directions. Background: . The operation by Bon Secours of the Maryview Medical Center in the City of Portsmouth as a primary care facility has a nearly 65 year history. The acute psychiatric services have been available since 1968. This entity has and continues to be the primary entity that provides the services and addresses the medical needs of the residents of Portsmouth and in part the surrounding Hampton Roads community. Maryview Medical Center has the distinction of being the only hospital in the City. Discussion: . The administration of Bon Secours hereby requests the Portsmouth City Council to adopt a resolution of support for the additional 21 beds as a part of the new 75 Bed Psychiatric Tower. The expansion of beds is being pursued to satisfy the current and future needs for psychiatric care in the region. These additional beds will elevate and enhance Maryview's capacity and ability to host patients requesting and requiring psychiatric care.
