NOVEMBER 14, 2000 <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) erred in the placement of an <br />underground fuel tank, and has placed the tank mostly on City property. The City would <br />be best served by seeing that the tank is on State property, thus avoiding possible <br />future environmental problems. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· There is no financial impact. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A DEED AND <br />OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO CONVEY A PARCEL OF LAND ADJACENT <br />TO THE DOWNTOWN TUNNEL TO THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the <br />City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to execute a deed and such other <br />documents as may be necessary to convey to the Commonwealth of Virginia the <br />following described property, to-wit: <br /> <br /> All that certain piece or parcel of land, with the improvements thereon, lying situate <br />in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia as shown on that certain plat entitled: <br />"PLAT SHOWING PROPERTY TO BE CONVEYED TO COMMONWEALTH OF <br />VIRGINIA FROM CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA", dated August <br />29, 2000, prepared by Earl M. Cheatham, City Surveyor for the City of Portsmouth, to <br />which reference may be made for a more particular description." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />00 - 280 - Adoption of a motion to transfer $63,452 from the Grants Contingency <br />Account for the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) Cooperative Marketing Grant for <br />Tourism. <br /> <br />These grant funds will allow the City to launch a regional African-American <br />heritage program with Norfolk, Hampton and Newport News as regional partners. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a motion to transfer $63,452 from the Grants Contingency Account for <br />the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) Cooperative Marketing Grant for Tourism. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· This grant will allow the City to launch a regional African-American heritage program <br />with Norfolk, Hampton, and Newport News as regional partners. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· Portsmouth, as lead partner, will contribute $15,000, identified in the marketing <br />budget. <br /> <br />· The other partnering cities will contribute $10,000 each. VTC will match the program <br />with $18,452. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to transfer $63,452 from <br />the Grants Contingency Account for the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) <br />Cooperative Marketing Grant for Tourism, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
