NOVEMBER 14, 2000 <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to file an <br />application for a Virginia Industrial Site Development Fund grant in the amount of <br />$1,375,000 for Portsmouth Corporate Center public improvements and to submit all <br />information necessary to apply for such funding and to meet all other program <br />administrative and reporting requirements." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />00 - 278 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey to <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority a small 12 foot by 12 foot parcel for <br />site development in blocks bounded by Jefferson, Fifth and Madison Streets and <br />PortCentre Parkway. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey to Portsmouth <br />Redevelopment and Housing Authority a small 12 foot by 12 foot parcel, along with <br />ingress and egress easements. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· This parcel is needed for site development in blocks bounded by Jefferson, Fifth, <br />and Madison Streets and PortCentre Parkway. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· There is no financial impact. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Benn, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CONVEY TO THE <br />PORTSMOUTH REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY A TWELVE FOOT <br />SQUARE PARCEL OF LAND LOCATED IN THE SOUTHSIDE REDEVELOPMENT <br />AREA. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that the City <br />Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to execute a deed conveying a parcel of <br />property to Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, described as follows: <br /> <br /> All that certain parcel of land, lying, and being in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />and being '12 feet square, on which a tree, and the grave of J.C.P. Edwards is located, <br />which said square of land is located in the rear portion of a lot conveyed by Florence R. <br />Belote and husband to George Thomas Taylor and Alberta R. Taylor, his wife, by deed <br />dated September '18, '1906, and duly recorded in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court <br />of the City of Chesapeake, Virginia, in Deed Book 308, at page 72." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br />Abstained: Robinett (Mr. Robinett abstained because of a possible financial conflict of <br />interest due to his employment.) <br /> <br />00 - 279 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey a small <br />parcel of land adjacent to the Downtown Tunnel Ventilation Building to the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br />A large portion of an underground fuel tank was erroneously placed on City <br />property by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). This action will <br />avoid possible future environmental problems for the City. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey a small portion of <br />land adjacent to the Downtown Tunnel Ventilation Building to the Commonwealth of <br />Virginia. <br /> <br /> <br />
