Vision Principle: Thriving
Neighborhood and a Sense of Community.

Background
. Preliminary design of the proposed extension of the Martin Luther King Freeway
has been sufficiently completed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to
establish a location of the required elements of the project.

Discussion:
. The recommended design alternative was presented for public comment by
VDOT at a Public Hearing held at I.C. Norcom High School on May 14, 2008.
. Written and orally registered comments from the public were generally favorable.
. The only element of the proposed project subject to the approval of City Council
at this time is specifically the project location.

Financial Impact:
. The City is not responsible for funding of portions of the actual project. This
project has no direct impact on the city's budget.

Staff Recommends:
Adoption of resolution. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhood and a Sense of
Community.
