<br />224 <br /> <br />Julv 22. 2008 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, there were present: <br /> <br />Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor William E. Moody, Jr., Marlene W. Randall, Stephen E. <br />Heretick, Elizabeth M. Psimas, Douglas L. Smith, Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., City Manager <br />Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br />08 - 325 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br />"Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the Council Chamber, <br />801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2008 for the purpose of a Public Work <br />Session. <br /> <br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />08 - 326 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br />1. Strategic Marketing Plan - Mary Murray, Director of Marketing <br /> <br />2. Martin Luther King Freeway Extension Project Resolution Update - Councilman <br />Smith <br /> <br />08 - 327 - Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed Meeting <br />pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 of the Code of Virginia, subsection 7 for consultation <br />with legal counsel and staff pertaining to litigation and also consultation with legal counsel <br />regarding specific legal matters requiring the provision of legal advice. <br /> <br />The subject matter of the meeting is litigation involving the City's court facilities. <br /> <br />The purpose of the meeting is to discuss legal strategy toward this litigation. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. Moody, pursuant to Section 2.2-3712(0) of <br />the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the <br />immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: <br /> <br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by <br />the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which <br />the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in <br />the meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Minutes prepared by: <br /> <br /> <br />A' .
