<br />July 22. 2008 <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The grant will help cover expenses including printing a gallery guide, stipend for <br />artists, support for travel of the artists and shipping expenses. <br />. The grant will also help sponsor a Juror's Choice Award. <br />. The exhibition will open with a reception on February 6, 2009 and run through <br />October 11, 2009. <br />. The Courthouse Galleries will receive a 25% commission on all artwork sold <br />during the show. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. There is no cash match required for this grant. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of ordinance. Vision Principle Advanced: Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Pending approval, the Director of Museums and the Curator of the Courthouse <br />Galleries will ensure that the funds are utilized for the stated purposes of the grant. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,440 FROM THE <br />VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS AND APPROPRIATING SAID SUM IN THE <br />FY 2008-2009 GRANTS FUND FOR THE OUTDOOR SCULPTURE COMPETITION <br />AND EXHIBITION AT THE COURTHOUSE GALLERIES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />08 - 341 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $5,000 from the <br />Virginia Commission for the Arts and appropriating said amount in the FY 2008-2009 <br />Grants Fund for the 38th Annual Seawall Art Show. Vision Principle: Lifelong Learning <br />Community and a Robust and Prospering Economy. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has received funds from the Virginia Commission for the <br />Local Challenge Grant category. <br />. The grant will be used to provide the artists' awards for the 38th Seawall Art <br />Show. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The Seawall Art Show is a volunteer supported event that features 90 fine art <br />and fine craft artists representing twelve different states from the Southeast region. <br />. All monetary support for the Seawall Art Show comes from grants, donations, <br />and corporate sponsors. <br />. Proceeds from the art show have funded special exhibits and artists' awards for <br />the Outdoor Sculpture Award. <br />. Proceeds from 2007 also funded a teen art camp at the Courthouse Galleries. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. A cash match is required which has been fulfilled by the City Council's <br />appropriation of financial awards to cultural organizations. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of ordinance.
