R-40, immediately south of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. <br /> <br /> "As you are aware, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church has indicated <br />for some time its desire to purchase a portion of:City-owned <br />property on Thomas Circle for parking and future expansion <br />purposes. The Tidewater Child Care:Association was to purchase <br />the remaining portion <br /> <br /> In light of Tidewater Child Care's decision to relocate to <br />another site, church~officials are ready to proceed with the <br />purchase of their parcel. To facilitate this process, the City <br />Attorney has drafted the attached resolution conveying one acre <br />to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and ~ousing Authority (PRHA) <br />who will handle the sale of the property~to the church. The <br />net proceeds from the land sale (less selling expenses) would <br />be returned to the City by PRHA. Also inctuded is a publ$c <br />street as it has been determined by the City Engineer to be in <br />the best interest of the~City <br /> <br /> I recommend Cit~ Council's approval of .both resolutions." <br /> <br /> Rev. William Hampton, 1722 Hodges Ferry 'Road, representing <br />Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, spoke in Support of the selling and <br />transfer of property at Thomas Circle. <br /> . <br /> Motion of Mr. Clemons and seconded by Mr. King, to adopt <br />the following resolution, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AuTHoRIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CONVEY TO THE <br />PORTSMOUTH REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY CERTAIN PROPERTY <br />LOCATED IN THE WEAVER REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT, VA. R-40, <br />IMMEDIATELY SOUTH OF MT. CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth owns the hereinafter <br />described real property located in the Weaver Redevelopment <br />Project, Va. R-40, immediately south of Mt. Calvary Baptist <br />Church, which property is no longer required for public <br />purposes and is, hereby, declared to be excess property; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth deems it to <br />be in the best interest of the City for~said property to be <br />developed and put to its best and highest use. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager: be, and hereby is, <br />authorized to convey the hereinafter described property to the <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, to-wit: <br /> <br /> <br />
