<br />June 24.2008 <br /> <br />. As part of Bon Secours' 2008 Certificate of Public Need Application, Bon <br />Secours Maryview Medical Center would transform into a 300 bed, all-private room <br />facility. <br />. The transformation would also include Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center <br />serving as the regional tertiary referral center for more complex cases from Harbour <br />View, DePaul, Virginia Beach, Mary Immaculate and other community providers. <br />. The transformation would also include Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center <br />serving as the destination for uniquelTertiary services for the Bon Secours Hampton <br />Roads system. More specifically, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center will add to and <br />reconfigure existing services. Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center will also represent <br />a 'non-traditional' hub for all four community hospitals. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. None. The proposed Resolution only offers support for the proposed application. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of the resolution. Vision Principle: Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Bon Secours will continue through the Certificate of Public Need Application <br />Process. <br /> <br />1. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke in support of this item, but had <br />reservations regarding the decrease in the number of rooms and the conversion of <br />all rooms to private rooms. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION BY THE PORTSMOUTH CITY COUNCIL IN SUPPORT OF THE <br />PROPOSAL BY BON SECOURS HAMPTON ROADS HEALTH SYSTEM TO <br />CONSTRUCT AN ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL IN THE CITY OF SUFFOLK AND TO <br />DESIGNATE MARYVIEW MEDICAL CENTER AS THE HUB OF THE LOCAL BON <br />SECOURS SYSTEM. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System has made a strong <br />commitment to provide health care services to the citizens of Portsmouth through <br />operation of Maryview Medical Center, Province Place at Maryview, the Bon Secours <br />Maryview Foundation Health Care Center, the Bon Secours Heart Institute, and other <br />critically important facilities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Bon Secours Hampton Roads has operated Maryview since 1984, <br />and during that time, has invested millions of dollars in capital improvements and new <br />programs and services at the hospital; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Bon Secours has developed health care outreach programs, <br />including the Bon Secours Heart Institute, designed to meet the needs of all the <br />residents of Portsmouth and Western Hampton Roads; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, prominent residents of Portsmouth have served, and are serving <br />with distinction, on the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System Board of Directors; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System employs <br />thousands of Portsmouth residents, and cares for tens of thousands of Portsmouth <br />residents every year; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many employees and board members of Bon Secours have served <br />in important roles in the social, charitable, government and business life of the city over <br />the years; and <br />
