<br />October 9. 2007 <br /> <br />Next Steps Following City Council Action: <br />Pending approval, the Director of Libraries and City Engineer will ensure that these <br />funds are utilized to provide payment for architectural design of the new Churchland <br />Branch Library. <br /> <br />1. Randi Strutton, 4704 Rivershore Road, spoke in support of this item. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psi mas, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING $211,625 IN GRANTS FROM THE VIRGINIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF HISTORIC RESOURCES AND APPROPRIATING $111,625 IN <br />THE FY 2007-2008 GRANTS FUND AND $100,000 IN THE FY 2007-2008 CAPITAL <br />PROJECTS FUND." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, D. Smith, R. Smith, Randall <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />07 - 435 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $5,000 from the <br />Virginia Commission for the Arts and appropriating the same amount in the FY 2007- <br />2008 Grants Fund for the Arts Local Challenge Grant awards category of the Seawall <br />Arts Show. Vision Principles: Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has received funds from the Virginia Commission for the <br />Local Challenge Grant category. <br />. The grant will be used for artist awards for the 37th Seawall Art Show. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The Seawall Art Show is a volunteer supported event featuring 90 fine art and <br />fine craft artists representing twelve different states from the Southeast region. <br />. All monetary support for the Seawall Art Show comes from grants, donations, <br />and corporate sponsors. <br />. Proceeds from the art show have funded special exhibits and artists' awards for <br />the Outdoor Sculpture Award. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. A $5,000 cash match is required which has been fulfilled by the City Council's <br />appropriation of award monies to civic and cultural organizations. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of proposed ordinance. Vision Principles: Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following City Council Action: <br />. The Director of Museums will provide grant management and oversight. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. R.
