The City will forward this contribution to the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve and will provide information to the City Council as the project progresses. 07-434(b) Background: . The City of Portsmouth, Department of Museums has received funds from the General Assembly through the Non-State Department of Entities funds that are administered by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. . The grant is for the Lightship Portsmouth for the renovation of the wheelhouse. . The original appropriation was for $17,500 but with the 5% reduction that has been instituted in Virginia, the new appropriation is for $16,625. Discussion: . Restoration of the exterior of the Lightship and the first level of the interior was completed in 2004. . The wheelhouse was not part of the original project. . The Virginia Department of Historic Resources awarded $100,000 to the Portsmouth Public Library for the architectural and engineering design of the new Churchland Branch Library. The grant proposal emphasized that additional space would be included in the new Churchland Branch for children's literacy programs and computer training classes. . These funds must be spent on design aspects directly related to the design of the new branch library. Matching funds have already been included in the City of Portsmouth Capital Project Budget. Discussion: . Funds received by the Portsmouth Public Library from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources will supplement funding in the Capital Projects Budget allocated for architectural and engineering design of the new Church land Branch building.
