<br />AUQust 28. 2007 <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE APPROVING THE REALLOCATION OF $70,399 IN COMMUNITY <br />DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) FUNDS IN THE 2004, 2005, AND 2006 <br />ACTION PLANS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />07 - 368 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $317,522 from <br />the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and appropriating said amount in <br />the FY 2007-2008 Grants Fund for use by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office for the <br />Victim Witness Program. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of <br />Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has received a grant from DCJS for continuation funding <br />of the Victim Witness Grant, administered by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. <br />. This grant program has grown over the last 19 years to comprise of seven full- <br />time appointees who served over 1500 victims last year. <br />. This program provides for comprehensive information and direct services to <br />crime victims and witnesses. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The Victim Witness Grant will provide for seven full-time appointees dedicated <br />100% to the Grant's objectives. <br />. It is estimated that this program will serve in excess of 1800 victims annually. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. There is no cash match required of the City. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of proposed ordinance. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a <br />Sense of Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. The continuation of our Victim Witness Program focusing on serving victims of <br />crime in our City. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. R. Smith, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $317,522 FROM THE <br />VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES AND <br />APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2007-2008 GRANTS FUND FOR USE <br />BY THE COMMONWEALTH'S ATTORNEY'S OFFICE FOR THE VICTIM WITNESS <br />PROGRAM." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />07 - 369 - Adoption of an ordinance appropriating in the FY 2007-2008 General Fund an <br />allocation in the amount of $2,063 from the Library of Virginia to fund compliance with <br />filtering requirements for public use internet computers in the Public Libraries. Vision <br />Principles: Lifelong Learning Community and Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of <br />Community. <br />
