Funds obligated
under this traffic safety project must be spent before
September 30, 1993. The checkpoints will be scheduled during
times traditionally known for the presence of intoxicated
drivers on our streets and highways. Some of the funds may be
used to purchase equipment related to the checkpoints, such~as
alcohol-breath detectors. Each checkpoint will last
approximately eight hours, including set-up time, and it will
involve the presence of ten Police Officers, one Sergeant, and
one Magistrate. A refurbished camping trailer will serve'as
the command post. Each operation should result in ten to
fifteen DUI arrests, as well as numerous other charges.
In view of the potential for traffic safety improvement, I
hereby recommend your approval of this program and the transfer
of $12,000 from the Grants Contingency Account."
Motion of Mr. King and seconded by Mr. Griffih, the
recommendation to transfer $12,000 for.
