February 13. 2007 Next Steps Following Council Action: . The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,401.99 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE-BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2006-2007 GRANTS FUND BUDGET TO DEFRAY A PORTION OF THE COST EXPENDED FOR THE PURCHASE OF BULLETPROOF VESTS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND SHERIFF'S OFFICE PERSONNEL WORKING ON THE STREETS." Smith, Holley Nays: None 07 - 75 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $2,000 from Wal- Mart Stores, Inc. and appropriating said amount in the FY 2006-2007 Grants Fund Budget for the Child Protective Services and Foster Care Programs of the Portsmouth Department of Social Services. On November 7, 2006, Portsmouth Department of Social Services submitted an application for grant funding through the Community Grant Program funded by Wal-Mart and SAM'S CLUB Foundation. . The grant application has been approved and funds were provided to the Department of Social Services by check during the Wal-Mart store's grand opening on January 19, 2007 in the City of Portsmouth. Discussion: . Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has made available $2000 to Portsmouth Department of Social Services to provide support services to the agency's Child Protective Services and Foster Care Programs. Financial Impact: . There is no local match required for the Grant Funds provided by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Staff Recommends: Adoption of proposed ordinance.
