<br />February 13. 2007 <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,401.99 FROM THE <br />U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE-BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE AND <br />APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2006-2007 GRANTS FUND BUDGET <br />TO DEFRAY A PORTION OF THE COST EXPENDED FOR THE PURCHASE OF <br />BULLETPROOF VESTS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND SHERIFF'S OFFICE <br />PERSONNEL WORKING ON THE STREETS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />07 - 75 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $2,000 from Wal- <br />Mart Stores, Inc. and appropriating said amount in the FY 2006-2007 Grants Fund <br />Budget for the Child Protective Services and Foster Care Programs of the Portsmouth <br />Department of Social Services. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense <br />of Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. On November 7, 2006, Portsmouth Department of Social Services submitted an <br />application for grant funding through the Community Grant Program funded by Wal-Mart <br />and SAM'S CLUB Foundation. <br />. The grant application has been approved and funds were provided to the <br />Department of Social Services by check during the Wal-Mart store's grand opening on <br />January 19, 2007 in the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has made available $2000 to Portsmouth Department of <br />Social Services to provide support services to the agency's Child Protective Services <br />and Foster Care Programs. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. There is no local match required for the Grant Funds provided by Wal-Mart <br />Stores, Inc. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of proposed ordinance. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense <br />of Community. <br /> <br />Next Step Following Council Action: <br />.
