Improvement Plan includes funding for <br />the Children's M~seum. As a result of the excellent bids received <br />for aSbestos removal from the former Leggett building, we will be <br />able to remov~ all the asbeStos from the entire structure <br />(including the r~of) rather than proceeding With the abatement in <br />phases as orlglnglly planned. <br /> <br /> Bids were received on April 29, 1993 for a replacement roof, <br />the r~sults of w~ich are shown on Attachment. No, 1. National <br />Roofing has succgssfully completed previous projects for the City, <br />therefore, the D%rector of Public Works recommends award of a <br />contract to National Roofing Corporation in the amaunt~ of $97,424. <br /> <br /> In consideration of the exhibit design for the New'Children's <br />Museum, the Director of Public Works also recommends that the <br />number of exhibits for which prototyping is completed be increased <br />from !5 to 36 ofIthe approximate 80 total exhibits. Prototyping <br />involves assembl%ng and testing the mechanisms contrOlling the <br />exhibits under actual working conditions as part of the design <br />process. The benefit of this process is more reliability from the <br />exhibits and fun~s spent on prototyping Will be offset by a <br />s~m~lar reduct~o9 ~n tne cost of the f~nal exhibit fabrication. <br />The cost of the .~dditional protOtyping and design modifications to <br />the mhseum layout are apProximatel~y $105,000, Your approval is <br />also required tolexceed 25% of the original contract for the <br />museum design consultant, Hands On!
