Clemens, Epperson,' Griffin, Hawks; King, Pitts, Webb Nays: None 93-208 Letter from the city Manager recommending adoption of an ordinance to ~ppropriate $160,000 from the Capital Improvements Fund for roof replacement and design services for the Children's Museum. i'The 1992/9~ Capital. Improvement Plan includes funding for the Children's M~seum. As a result of the excellent bids received for aSbestos removal from the former Leggett building, we will be able to remov~ all the asbeStos from the entire structure (including the r~of) rather than proceeding With the abatement in phases as orlglnglly planned. Bids were received on April 29, 1993 for a replacement roof, the r~sults of w~ich are shown on Attachment. No, 1. National Roofing has succgssfully completed previous projects for the City, therefore, the D%rector of Public Works recommends award of a contract to National Roofing Corporation in the amaunt~ of $97,424. In consideration of the exhibit design for the New'Children's Museum, the Director of Public Works also recommends that the number of exhibits for which prototyping is completed be increased from !5 to 36 ofIthe approximate 80 total exhibits. Prototyping involves assembl%ng and testing the mechanisms contrOlling the exhibits under actual working conditions as part of the design process. The benefit of this process is more reliability from the exhibits and fun~s spent on prototyping Will be offset by a s~m~lar reduct~o9 ~n tne cost of the f~nal exhibit fabrication.
