January 9, 2001 <br /> <br />- City Manager's Report - <br /> <br />01 -16 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey a parcel on <br />Turnpike Road adjacent to S. H. Clarke School to the Commonwealth of Virginia for <br />improvements to be made to Turnpike Road by the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation (VDOT). <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey a parcel on <br />Turnpike Road adjacent to S.H. Clarke School to the Commonwealth of Virginia for <br />improvements to be made to Turnpike Road by the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation (VDOT.) <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· Turnpike Road is being improved by VDOT to provide for an improved transportation <br />corridor at the request of the City. <br /> <br />· This parcel is being conveyed to the City by the School Board for deed to the <br />Commonwealth. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· This property will be conveyed to the Commonwealth for construction without <br />compensation and then the improved Turnpike Road will be conveyed back to the City <br />upon completion. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CONVEY A PARCEL OF <br />LAND TO THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA FOR TURNPIKE ROAD <br />IMPROVEMENTS ADJACENT TO S.H. CLARKE SCHOOL. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the <br />City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to convey to the Commonwealth of <br />Virginia the following described parcels, to-wit: <br /> <br /> All that certain piece, or parcel of land, lying situate in the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, being designated as Parcel 107 on <br />Sheet 13 of the plans for Route 337, State Highway Project 0337-124- <br />V04, RW-201, said parcel containing 0.026 acres, more or less." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />01 - 17 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey the property <br />known as the City Dental Clinic at 344 Effingham Street to the Industrial Development <br />Authority. <br /> <br />This action will allow the property to be sold for operation of a private dental <br />clinic. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to convey the property known <br />as the City Dental Clinic at 344 Effingham Street to the Industrial Development <br />Authority. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The property is to be sold for operation of a private dental clinic. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The property will be sold for $100,000 and then will become taxable real property. <br /> <br /> <br />
