The Clean Community Commission and its program activities empower and <br />educate citizens and constituents with a means to upgrade, maintain, and improve the <br />quality and livability of the city. The activities and efforts set the stage for a cleaner <br />more beautiful city that is capable of providing the best resources and opportunities to <br />citizens, businesses and our economy. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. There is no City cash match required for this grant. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of proposed ordinance. Vision Principle: Neighborhood and Community <br />Transformation. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. The Clean Community Coordinator will be the project manager for the grant and <br />will keep the Office of the City Manager, the Director of the Parks, Recreation and <br />Leisure Services, and the Clean Community Commission updated on the status of the <br />programs. The City Council liaison will provide information to the City Council as <br />appropriate. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psi mas, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $14,087 FROM THE <br />VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND APPROPRIATING <br />SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2006-2007 GRANTS FUND BUDGET FOR LITTER <br />PREVENTION AND CLEAN-UP." <br /> <br />Ayes: Moody, Heretick, Psi mas, D. Smith, R. Smith, Randall <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />06 - 489 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a non-state agency grant in the amount of <br />$300,000 from the Virginia General Assembly and appropriating said amount in the FY <br />2006-2007 Capital Projects Fund Budget for architectural, lighting, and graphic design <br />services for the Children's Museum Expansion. Vision Principles: Neighborhood and <br />Community Transformation and Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The staff of the Children's Museum of Virginia, working with LaPaglia and <br />Associates developed a master plan for the renovation and expansion of the Children's <br />Museum of Virginia that was completed in 2003. <br />. This was followed by a Content Development phase that was completed in 2004. <br />. In 2005, Lee Skolnick and Associates was hired as the exhibit designers for the <br />project. As of October 2006, the design of the exhibits is 95% complete. <br />. HBA, Inc. was hired as the architectural firm of record. <br />. As of December 2006, the architectural design will be 95% complete. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The funds from the General Assembly are being earmarked for architectural, <br />lighting and graphic design services for the project. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />.
