t67 <br /> <br /> AuquSt 24, 1993 <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. King, and SeConded by Mr, Clemons, the <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote.' <br /> <br /> "ARESOLUTION APPOINTING VIEWERS FOR CLOSING OF A PORTION <br />OF INDUSTRIAL AVENUE AND A PORTION OF DETROIT STREET. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the VirginiaPort Authority and the Virginia <br />Department of Transportation have made application to vacate, <br />close and discontinue the hereinafter described portions of <br />Industrial Avenue and Detroit Street, and it appearing that <br />notice Of application and request for appointment of viewers has <br />been advertised as required by law. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that Roy Leinart, Charles R. Hudgins, <br />Robert Reed, Harrison Miller and Moses Gibson be appointed <br />viewers, and that John H. Mason, Jr. and Cornelius Harding, Jr. <br />be appointed alternate viewers in the event one of the preceding <br />viewers fails to participate, said viewers to view the <br />hereinafter-described streets and to report to this Council in <br />writing whether in their opinion, any, and if any what, <br />inconvenience would result in vacating and closing the <br />following: <br /> <br />DETROIT STREET <br /> <br />iAll that portion of Detroit Street beginning at the eastern <br />intersection of Detroit Street and Lee Avenue and running in an <br />easterly direction to the western intersection of Detroit Street <br />and Industrial Avenue, consisting of .23 acres, more or less, <br />such portion of Detroit Street having a width of 50 feet, and <br />the distance for closure on Detroit Street being 200 feet long. <br /> <br />INDUSTRIAL AVENUE <br /> <br />Ali that portion of Industrial Avenue, beginning at the southern <br />intersection of Industrial Avenue and Wesley~-Street and running <br />in a southerly direction to the northern line of the property on <br />which the Portsmouth Fire Station is located, which line is the <br />dividing line between the property owned by the City of <br />Portsmouth and the property owned by Virginia Port Authority on <br />the western side of Industrial Avenue, consisting of 1.414 <br />acres, more or less, Industrial Avenue having an approximate <br />width of 50 feet, and the distance for closure on Industrial <br />Avenue being 1035 feet long." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 93-329 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a <br /> motion to transfer $17,000 from the Grants Contingency Account <br /> for the Preteen Recreation Enrichment Program. <br /> <br /> "The Department of Parks and Recreation-has received <br /> funding of a $17,000 grant to operate a Preteen Recreation <br /> Enrichment Program in cooperation with the Portsmouth <br /> Redevelopment and Housing Authority for public housing area <br /> youth ages 5-9. This program has been in existence since <br /> December, 1991 an provides recreation enrichment programs and <br /> positive self-awareness counseling to youth who reside in <br /> Jeffrey Wilson and Washington Park. <br /> <br /> I recommend the approval of 'this grant request and the <br />~transfer of $17,000 from the Grants Contingency Account." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Epperson, and seconded by Mr. King, to defer <br />this item to the regular meeting of September 14, 1993, and was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> <br />
