AUQust 22, 2006 Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley Nays: None Motion by Mr. R. Smith, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to adopt the following ordinance with the noted amendment, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE TO AMEND ARTICLE XXI OF CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH (1988), PERTAINING TO THE EMERGENCY SERVICES AGENCY." Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley Nays: None 06 - 386 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services in the amount of $7,300 and appropriating said amount in the FY 2006-2007 Grants Fund Budget for police recruiting equipment and expenses. Vision Principles: Neighborhood and Community Transformation and Bold New Directions. Background: . The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $7,300.00 from the Department of Criminal Justice Services to provide funds for equipment, job fair registration and travel. Discussion: . The PPD recently contracted with a marketing agency that specializes in law enforcement minority recruitment and is ready to launch a new recruitment campaign that capitalizes on the unique assets of the Portsmouth community and the department. This project proposal will enable the department to utilize the new campaign and products in targeted minority markets such as Historically Black Colleges and Universities, churches, special festivals, transitional programs for those retiring from military service, and other such venues. . Financial Impact: The grant award amount is $7,300.00 of Department of Justice funds for the Portsmouth Police Department. The City does have to provide 25% match monies and there is no obligation from the City once the grant has ended. Staff Recommends: Adoption of proposed ordinance. Smith, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,300 AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2006-2007 GRANTS FUND BUDGET FOR POLICE RECRUITING EQUIPMENT AND EXPENSES."
