It is estimated that this program will serve in excess of 1700 victims annually. <br />. The continuation of the Victim Witness Program focusing on serving victims of <br />crime in our City. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF <br />CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $317,522 AND <br />APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2006-2007 GRANTS FUND FOR THE <br />VICTIM WITNESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />06 - 356 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $45,625 from the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and appropriating <br />said amount in the FY 2006-2007 Grants Fund for the V-STOP Program administered <br />by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. Vision Principle: Neighborhood and <br />Community Transformation. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has received a grant from DCJS for continuation funding <br />of the V-STOP Grant, administered by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. <br />. This grant program has grown over the last 6 years to serve over 600 victims <br />annually, trained up to 100 police officers annually, and coordinated 6 STEP Council <br />meetings per year. <br />. This program provides for support, training, education and prosecution of <br />violent crime against women. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The V-STOP Grant will provide for one full-time prosecutor dedicated 100% to <br />the Grant's objectives. <br />. It is estimated that this program will serve in excess of 650 victims annually. <br />. Financial Impact: There is a cash match required of the City at a rate of 25% of <br />the total award, or $15,208. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of proposed ordinance.
