Financial Impact: The additional funding will be added to the Portsmouth Public <br />Library's Operating Budget and enable the library to pay the Law Library Assistant I <br />salary. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $9,641 from the Law Library Budget to the <br />Public Library in order to fund part-time Law Library personnel. Vision Principle: <br />Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />06 - 336 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept a grant from the Department of Criminal <br />Justice Services in the amount of $48,026 and to appropriate that same amount into the <br />Grants Fund for the V-STOP Program. Vision Principle: Neighborhood and Community <br />Transformation. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has received a grant from DCJS for continuation funding of <br />the V-STOP Grant, administered by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. <br />. This grant program has grown over the last 5 years to serve over 600 victims <br />annually, trained up to 100 police officers annually and coordinated up to 6 STEP Council <br />meetings per year. <br />. This program provides for support, training, education and prosecution of violent <br />crime against women. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The V-STOP Grant will provide for one full-time prosecutor dedicated 100% to the <br />Grant's objectives. <br />. It is estimated that this program will serve in excess of 600 victims annually. <br />. Financial Impact: There is a cash match required of the City at a rate of 25% of <br />the total award or $16,008. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of an ordinance to accept a grant from the Department of Criminal Justice <br />Services in the amount of $48,026 and to appropriate that same amount into the Grants <br />Fund for the V-STOP Program.
