January 24.2006 - City Manager's Report - 06 - 46 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $7,500.00 from the Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia grant to the Portsmouth Health Department to provide funds for its SEVAMP Health Services Program. The Portsmouth Health Department will provide an in-kind match valued at $2,843 in staff time and supplies from their budget. There is no obligation from the City for match funding. Vision Principle: Lifelong Learning Community. Background: . The Portsmouth Health Department has received grant funding of $7,500.00 from SEVAMP to provide health education and health screening services for the elderly (age 60 and above). Discussion: . The grant will be used to allow the Health Department to provide services to assist and empower the elderly residents of Portsmouth to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyles. Monthly visits by Portsmouth Health Department staff are made to senior facilities to provide health education and health screening services. . Financial Impact: The Portsmouth Health Department will provide an in-kind match valued at $2,843 in staff time and supplies from their budget. There is no obligation from the City for match funding. Staff Recommends: Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $7,500.00 from Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia and to appropriate this same amount to the Portsmouth Health Department to provide funds for its SEVAMP Health Services Program. Staff from the Portsmouth Health Department will provide monthly visits to senior facilities for health screenings and education. Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Smith, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,500 FROM SENIOR SERVICES OF SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA AND APPROPRIATING THE SAME AMOUNT IN THE FY 2005-2006 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE PORTSMOUTH HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR THE SEVAMP HEALTH SERVICES PROGRAM." Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None 06 - 47 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $50,001.23 from the Department of Transportation grant to provide funds for technology, equipment and a Vulnerability Reduction Plan to allow for completion of program expenses. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $50,001.23 from the Virginia Department of Transportation to provide funds for technology, equipment, training & travel and supplies for the Buffer Zone Plan.
