December 13, 2005 <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />? <br /> These grant funds will be used to acquire additional CERT supplies and <br />equipment to ensure the future of this program. <br />? <br /> In addition, funds will be used to promote the CERT and other citizen-based <br />programs under the Citizen Corps program umbrella and to provide for annual exercises <br />and other activities to increase training opportunities and to maintain the interest of <br />citizens, once trained. <br />? <br /> All expenditures must qualify under the grant conditions. <br />? <br />Financial Impact: <br /> These grant funds require no local cash match. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of an Ordinance to accept $3,840 from the Virginia Department of Emergency <br />Management and to appropriate this same amount for the Citizen Corps Council <br />program that educates and prepares citizens of Portsmouth in emergency preparedness <br />and response skills in the event of a man-made or natural disaster. This radar unit will be utilized in conjunction <br />with the City’s currently awarded DUI, Speed and Occupant Restraint Grant and <br />Enforcement Campaigns. Vision Principle: Neighborhood and Community <br />Transformation. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />? <br /> The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $1,322.76 <br />from the Department of Motor Vehicles to purchase one police vehicle radar unit. This <br />radar unit will be utilized in conjunction with our currently awarded DUI, speed and <br />occupant restraint grant and enforcement campaigns. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />? <br /> The funds from this mini-grant will be utilized to purchase radar unit. This radar unit <br />will be utilized in the enforcement phases of our DUI, speed and aggressive driving <br />campaigns, and in conjunction with the DMV, Smart, Safe and Sober Strike-force <br />program. <br />? <br />Financial Impact: <br /> The grant amount is $1,322.76 of Division of Motor Vehicle <br />funds for the Portsmouth Police Department.
