The Senior Station serves as a 'hub' of activities and programs for senior adults. <br />The addition of the DVD library and speaker's program furthers this mission. With <br />proper administration and reporting to Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, this <br />funding will be extended an additional two years maximizing the impact of this grant. <br />. Financial Impact: There is no City cash match required. An in-kind match of <br />15% is required. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $1400 from Senior Services of Southeastern <br />Virginia to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services for a DVD library <br />and speaker's program at the Senior Station. No City cash match required. Vision <br />Principles: Lifelong Learning Community and Neighborhood and Community <br />Transformation. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. The Senior Station Recreation Specialist will be the project manager for the grant <br />and will keep the Department updated on the status of the programs. <br />. The City Council liaison will provide information to the City Council as <br />appropriate. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING GRANT FROM THE SENIOR SERVICES OF <br />SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,400 AND APPROPRIATING <br />SAID AMOUNT IN THE 2005-2006 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE <br />DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION, AND LEISURE SERVICES AT THE <br />SENIOR STATION." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />05 - 532 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept the grant award of $20,000 from the <br />Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and to appropriate this same amount to the <br />Portsmouth Police Department to provide overtime and equipment to be utilized for law <br />enforcement in the areas of Driving Under the Influence (DUI), speeding and occupant <br />protection. No cash match is required. A $5,000 in-kind match to include cost of vehicle <br />usage and administrative management will be provided. Vision Principle: Neighborhood <br />and Community Transformation. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding from the <br />Department of Motor Vehicles of $20,000. These funds will be used to provide overtime <br />and equipment to be utilized for law enforcement in the areas of Driving Under the <br />Influence (DUI), speeding and occupant protection. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />.
