<br />September 27, 2005 <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has been allocated $107,592 based on a formula that <br />was used considering the per capita of our community. <br />. Although quite a reduction from 2004 funding ($337,270), this year's funds will <br />also be allocated among the PFR&ES, the Police Department and the Portsmouth <br />Health Department based on priority needs. <br />. Portsmouth's plan includes funding for interoperable portable radios and other <br />communications equipment, back-up power sources for designated neighborhood <br />health centers and the Health Department offices, and a Medical Reserve Coordinator <br />(contractual) . <br />. Financial Impact: This grant requires no local cash match. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of an Ordinance to accept $107,592 from the Virginia Department of <br />Emergency Management and to appropriate this same amount for resources needed to <br />prepare the City of Portsmouth for response to man-made or natural disasters. Vision <br />Principle: Neighborhood and Community Transformation. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Continued enhancement of emergency management resources among the <br />Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services, the Police Department and the <br />Health Department. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $107,592 FROM THE <br />COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br />AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE GRANTS FUND FOR DISASTER <br />RESPONSE RESOURCES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />05 - 440 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $3,000 Mini-Grant from the <br />Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to the Portsmouth Police Department to provide <br />overtime payment for law enforcement personnel to conduct a Driving Under the <br />Influence Checkpoint in conjunction with the current Smart, Safe and Sober Checkpoint <br />Strike-force program.
