<br />June 28. 2005 <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of a resolution requesting allocation of funds of up to $1,000,000 through the <br />Virginia Department of Transportation Fiscal Year 2005-2006 Revenue Sharing <br />Program to fund street and infrastructure improvements as required for the proposed <br />Tidewater Community College Campus in Portsmouth, with a $2,000,000 match <br />requirement from the City's Fiscal Year 2007 Capital Improvements Program. Vision <br />Principle: Neighborhood and Community Transformation, Robust and Prospering <br />Economy, and Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Proposed requests for these funds must be submitted to the District VDOT office <br />by July 13, 2005. <br />. Preparation of the required application, plans, and total scope to VDOT to obtain <br />approval of the proposed project as a locally administered project in VDOT's Six Year <br />Plan. <br /> <br />1. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke in support of this item. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION REQUESTING ALLOCATION OF FUNDS FROM THE VIRGINIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FISCAL YEAR 2005-2006, REVENUE <br />SHARING PROGRAM FOR STREET AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS <br />AT THE PROPOSED TIDEWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE CAMPUS IN <br />PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth desires to submit an <br />application for an allocation of funds of up to $1,000,000 through the Virginia <br />Department of Transportation Fiscal Year 2005-2006 Revenue Sharing Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these funds are requested to fund improvements for street and <br />infrastructure improvements at the proposed Tidewater Community College Campus <br />in the Victory Commerce Park area of Portsmouth, improvements estimated to have a <br />total cost of $3,000,000. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth hereby expresses its support for this application for an allocation of <br />$1,000,000 through the Virginia Department of Transportation Revenue Sharing <br />Program." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />05 - 294 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />05 - 295 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />"y Councilwoman Psimas spoke on the Change of Command Ceremony for the <br />United States Coast Guard at High Street Landing in which Rear Admiral <br />Sally Brice-O'Hara was relieved by Rear Admiral Larry L. Hereth. <br /> <br />"y Vice Mayor Moody informed Council of concerns from residents in Simonsdale <br />regarding no fishing in the tidal waters of City Park and asked that staff look into <br />this to determine if this is the policy and if so, make changes allowing for a safe <br />area where fishing is possible. <br />
