<br />March 22. 2005 <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br />. Adoption of an ordinance to accept $2,709 from the U. S. Department of Justice, <br />Bureau of Justice Assistance, and to appropriate the same amount in the Grants Fund <br />for the Bulletproof Vest Program. <br /> <br />Summary: <br /> <br />. These funds will be used to reimburse a portion of the costs expended for the <br />purchase of bulletproof vests for the Police Department. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />. The Bureau of Justice Assistance has approved a grant for the purchase of <br />bulletproof vests. <br /> <br />. The funds will be used to offset some of the costs for the purchase of seventeen <br />(17) bulletproof vests for the Police Department. <br /> <br />. This grant contributes toward the City Council's vision of Neighborhood and <br />Community Transformation by helping to ensure community safety. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />. The Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded the City $2,709 to offset half of the <br />cost of seventeen (17) bulletproof vests. <br /> <br />. There is no obligation from the City once the grant ends. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,709 FROM THE <br />U. S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE <br />GRANTS FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF BULLETPROOF VESTS FOR THE <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />05 - 125 - Adoption of an ordinance to reprogram FY-05 Operating Budget funds <br />appropriated in the General Fund totaling $425,000 for various commitments and <br />operational costs needed through June 30, 2005. Vision Principles: Neighborhood <br />and Community Transformation and A Robust and Prospering Economy. <br /> <br />1. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke in opposition to this item. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to defer Agenda Item <br />05-125 until the April 12, 2005 City Council meeting with a work session on March 29, <br />2005, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />05 - 126 - Adoption of an ordinance to amend the FY 2005 Operating Budget and to <br />appropriate $19,911 of revenue from the Virginia State Board of Elections for <br />workplace improvements needed in the Office of the General Registrar. Vision <br />Principles: Bold New Directions, A Robust and Prospering Economy. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br />. Adoption of an ordinance to amend the FY 2005-05 Operating Budget and to <br />appropriate $19,911 of revenue from the Virginia State Board of Elections for <br />improvements to workspace in the Office of the General Registrar. <br />
