February 89~ I994 <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, ~BE~IT RESOLVED~that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth,.Virginiag' supports the request of <br />Portsmouth Veterans Home, Inc., a non-profit organization, for <br />designation as a charitable and benevolent organization within <br />the context of Section 6 (a) (6) of Article X of the <br />Constitution of Virginia and that its property located at 4648 <br />Portsmouth Boulevard in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, owned <br />by it and used by it exclusively for charitable and benevolent <br />purposes on a non-profit basis, be determined to be exempt from <br />taxation in accordance with Section 58.1-3650 of the Code of <br />Virginia, 1950, as amended. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she <br />hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to <br />State Senators L. Louise Lucas and Frederick M. Quayle and <br />Delegates William S. Moore, Jr., and Kenneth R. MeLvin." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Hawks, King, Pitts <br />Nays: Griffin,~Webb <br /> <br />94-51 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a <br />motion to award the building renovation design contract for the <br />new Children's Museum of Virginia to Greaves, Finch and <br />Associates. <br /> <br /> "Funds are included in the 1993-98 Capital Improvement <br />Plan for construction of the Children's Museum of Virginia to <br />be located in the former Leggett's building. To complete the <br />plans for the necessary building renovations, the firm of <br />Greaves, Finch and Associates was selected through the public <br />procurement process. The cost of completing the building <br />design plans is estimated as follows: <br /> <br />Greaves, Finch and Associates <br />Contingencies <br /> <br />$ 95,000 <br />$ 20,000 <br /> <br />TOTAL ANTICIPATED COST <br /> <br />$115,000 <br /> <br /> In order to complete the Museum for opening in December <br />1994, the Director of Public Works recommends award of the <br />design contract to Greaves, Finch and Associates. Sufficient <br />funds are available from previous appropriations to complete <br />this work. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, concur with the Director of Public Works and <br />recommend award of the contract to Greaves, Finch and <br />Associates." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Epperson, and seconded by Mr. King, to award <br />the building renovation contract to Greaves, Finch and <br />Associates for the new Children's Museum of Virginia, and was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />94-52 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a <br />motion submitting the Quarterly Financial Report for the period <br />ended December 30, 1993. <br /> <br /> "In accordance with Section 12-64 of the City Code, the <br />Quarterly Financial Report for the period ended December 31, <br />1993 is herewith submitted. <br /> <br /> <br />
