February 89~ I994 NOW, THEREFORE, ~BE~IT RESOLVED~that the Council of the City of Portsmouth,.Virginiag' supports the request of Portsmouth Veterans Home, Inc., a non-profit organization, for designation as a charitable and benevolent organization within the context of Section 6 (a) (6) of Article X of the Constitution of Virginia and that its property located at 4648 Portsmouth Boulevard in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, owned by it and used by it exclusively for charitable and benevolent purposes on a non-profit basis, be determined to be exempt from taxation in accordance with Section 58.1-3650 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to State Senators L. Louise Lucas and Frederick M. Quayle and Delegates William S. Moore, Jr., and Kenneth R. MeLvin." Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Hawks, King, Pitts Nays: Griffin,~Webb 94-51 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a motion to award the building renovation design contract for the new Children's Museum of Virginia to Greaves, Finch and Associates. "Funds are included in the 1993-98 Capital Improvement Plan for construction of the Children's Museum of Virginia to be located in the former Leggett's building. To complete the plans for the necessary building renovations, the firm of Greaves, Finch and Associates was selected through the public procurement process. The cost of completing the building design plans is estimated as follows: Greaves, Finch and Associates Contingencies $ 95,000 $ 20,000 TOTAL ANTICIPATED COST $115,000 In order to complete the Museum for opening in December 1994, the Director of Public Works recommends award of the design contract to Greaves, Finch and Associates. Sufficient funds are available from previous appropriations to complete this work. I, therefore, concur with the Director of Public Works and recommend award of the contract to Greaves, Finch and Associates." Motion by Mr. Epperson, and seconded by Mr. King, to award the building renovation contract to Greaves, Finch and Associates for the new Children's Museum of Virginia, and was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb Nays: None 94-52 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a motion submitting the Quarterly Financial Report for the period ended December 30, 1993.
