November 23, 2004 Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE FY 2004-05 OPERATING BUDGET BY APPROPRIATING $48,000 IN THE GENERAL FUND FOR THE OFFICE OF THE COMMONWEALTH'S ATTORNEY." Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None 04 - 454 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept $12,465 and to appropriate this same amount in the Grants Fund for the "Staying Connected Grant Program" for the purchase of new computers for the Portsmouth Public Libraries. This is a continuation of a grant that Bill and Melinda Gates awarded in 2000-2001 for purchase of 12 computers for three Portsmouth Public Library branch locations. The Library of Virginia supplemented the grant for the fourth branch. These additional funds will purchase 9 replacement and/or additional computers for the three library locations. Recommended Action: · Adoption of an ordinance to accept $12,465 and to appropriate the same amount in the Grants Fund for the "Staying Connected Grant" in order to purchase new computers for the Portsmouth Public Libraries. Summary: · This is a continuation of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant awarded in 2000-2001 for purchase of twelve (12) computers for three Portsmouth Public Library branches. The Library of Virginia supplemented the grant for the fourth branch. This additional $12,465 will be used to purchase nine (9) replacement and/or additional computers for the original three branches (Main, Manor and Cradock). Purpose and Need: · The Gates' computers have had hard usage (more than 40,000 users per year), and several are in need of replacement. · These funds will result in additional computers being placed at the Main, Manor, and Cradock Libraries. Financial Impact: · This is additional funding for the original grant and no City match required. Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING $12,465 IN STAYING CONNECTED GRANT FUNDS AND APPROPRIATING SAID SUM IN THE GRANTS FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF COMPUTERS FOR THE PORTSMOUTH PUBLIC LIBRARY." Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None 04 - 455 - Adoption of an ordinance to refund the over assessment of Business Personal Property Taxes paid for the calendar year 2003-2004 in the total amount of $137,072.47 to BASF, The Chemical Company.
