October 12, 2004 <br /> <br />Summary: <br /> <br />· The Commissioner of the Revenue has requested various improvements to improve <br />office design and day-to-day security for staff and citizens. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The current office conditions are not conducive to effectively securing everyday <br />operations of the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue on the first floor of City <br />Hall. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· Funding has been identified through estimated State revenues, and estimated <br />revenue from the Commonwealth will be increased accordingly in the City's operating <br />budget. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY'S APPROVED FY 2004-2005 OPERATING <br />BUDGET FOR SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS AND RENOVATIONS TO THE OFFICE <br />OF THE COMMISSIONER OF THE REVENUE AND APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF <br />$50,000 OF ADDITIONAL ESTIMATED REVENUE FROM THE COMMONWEALTH <br />OF VIRGINIA FOR SAID PURPOSES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Smith <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />04 - 396 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept a grant in the amount of $225,000 from <br />the Department of Justice, Community Capacity Development Office, and to appropriate <br />the same amount in the Grants Fund for the Weed and Seed initiative in the "Nehemiah <br />Vision" neighborhoods. <br /> <br />Weed and Seed is a comprehensive plan that promotes aggressive law <br />enforcement, community policing, prevention, intervention and treatment, and <br />neighborhood restoration strategies in the 15 designated neighborhoods. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to accept a grant from the U. S.
