October 28, 2003 <br /> <br />These funds will be used on resources and equipment for various Police <br />operations, such as traffic checkpoints, safety seat checks, and tenant council <br />meetings in the Lincoln Park, Jeffry Wilson, Dale Homes, and Swanson Homes <br />communities. There is no local cash match required. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $100,000 in the Grants Fund for a Weed <br />and Seed Program Support Grant for the four public housing communities within the <br />Nehemiah Vision area. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The United States Department of Justice has approved a one-time $100,000 award <br />of FY 2003 HUD funding to support the City's housing initiative. <br /> <br />· The Police Department, in cooperation with the community, has identified four <br />housing areas (Lincoln Park, Jeffry Wilson, Dale Homes, and Swanson Homes) which <br />are significantly impacted by drug trafficking. This award will assist in the investigation, <br />prosecution, and prevention of violent crimes and drug offenses in public and federally- <br />funded housing areas. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· There is no local match required, and there is no obligation from the City once the <br />grant ends. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $100,000 IN THE GRANTS FUND TO PROVIDE <br />RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT FOR POLICE OPERATIONS IN THE LINCOLN <br />PARK, JEFFRY WILSON, DALE HOMES, AND SWANSON HOMES <br />COMMUNITIES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />03 - 395 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $600,000 in the Grants Fund for the <br />purchase of a Maritime Emergency Response Vessel (fireboat) for the Fire Department. <br /> <br />These funds have been granted to the City by the Transportation Security <br />Administration of the U. S. Department of Transportation. The fireboat will <br />improve response capabilities for fire services, emergency rescue, hazardous <br />materials response, and terrorist events in protecting the Virginia Port Authority, <br />military, citizens and businesses along the Hampton Roads harbor. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $600,000 in the Grants Fund for the <br />purchase of a Maritime Emergency Response Vessel (Fireboat) for the <br />Department. <br /> <br />Fire <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The United States Department of Homeland Security, Office of Domestic <br />Preparedness, Urban Areas Security Initiative Port Security Grant Program has <br />awarded the City $600,000 for the purchase of a Maritime Emergency Response <br />Vessel. <br /> <br /> <br />
