<br />(d) Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Epperson, the
<br />following ordinance, approved on first reading at the meeting of
<br />March 7, 1994, was adopted by the following vote:

<br />OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), BY AMENDING SECTIONS 40-2, 40-22
<br />AND 40-53.1(A) AND TABLES 40-43.1-1, 40-43.1-2, 40-43.1-3,
<br />40-44-1 AND 40-44-2 THEREOF PERTAINING TO ZONING."

<br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORT -
<br />
<br />94-100 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of
<br />an ordinance to appropriate $634,104 from the Capital
<br />Improvements Fund and $409,788 from the Public Utilities Capital
<br />Improvements Fund for improvements to the High Street corridor,
<br />and award of the construction contract to the lowest responsible
<br />bidder, Vico Construction Corporation.
<br /> "Funds are identified in the 1993-98 Capital Improvement
<br />Plan for improvements to the High Street corridor. Work
<br />includes the widening of High Street from Halifax Avenue to
<br />Willett Drive, extension of Rodman Avenue to High Street, and
<br />installation of a left turn lane at High Street West and Shirley
<br />Road. Also included in this project is installation of a larger
<br />water main on High Street from Maryview Hospital to the
<br />Churchland Bridge. Construction bids were received on March 10,
<br />1994 and the results of the bid opening are shown on Attachment
<br />No. 1.

<br /> The total anticipated cost of the project is itemized as
<br />follows:

<br /> Of the funds required for this project, $56,503 has been
<br />previously appropriated, therefore, the total appropriation

<br /> The Director of Public Works recommends award of a
<br />construction contract to the low bidder, Vico Construction
<br />Corporation, and a total appropriation of $1,043,892, $409,788
<br />from the Public Utilities Capital Improvements Fund and $634,104
<br />from the Capital Improvements Fund.
