Au.qust 26, 2003 <br /> <br />· Last year, this program provided mentors for 23 Hunt Mapp Middle School students. <br />Teachers and administrators were involved and referred more than seventy youth to the <br />program. This is the third year of the grant with a total of 43 youth served and more <br />than 51 adult mentors. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· This is a reimbursable grant with the match to be provided through in-kind services. <br />The City must provide an in-kind match valuing $35,077 for a total grant of $99,300. <br /> <br /> Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $64,223 IN THE GRANTS FUND FOR THE <br />FRIENDS OF THE JUVENILE COURT AND THE BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS <br />JUVENILE MENTORING PROGRAM." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />03 - 303 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $557,392 from the Grants Fund as <br />follows: <br /> <br />(a) <br /> <br />An appropriation of $39,000 to the Fire Department for the purchase of <br />three Defibrillator/Monitors. The local cash match is $19,500. <br /> <br />(b) <br /> <br />An appropriation of $78,626 for the purchase of an ambulance. The local <br />cash match is $46,304. <br /> <br />(c) <br /> <br />An appropriation of $439,766 for the purchase of protective and response <br />equipment for domestic preparedness for the Departments of Fire and <br />Police. There is no local match. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $557,392 in the Grants Fund as follows: <br /> <br /> (a) An appropriation of $39,000 to the Department of Fire, Rescue and <br />Emergency Services for the purchase of three Defibrillator/Monitors. <br /> <br /> (b) An appropriation of $78,626 to the Department of Fire, Rescue <br />and Emergency Services for the purchase of an ambulance. <br /> <br /> (c) An appropriation of $439,766 for the purchase of protective and <br />response equipment for domestic preparedness for the Departments of Fire, <br />Rescue and Emergency Services and Police. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br /> (a) The purchase of three defibrillators/monitors will allow the Department of <br />Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services to increase the advanced life support level by so <br />equipping three Squad Companies and thereby increasing the level of emergency <br />medical care to our citizens. This is a $39,000 grant with a 50/50 match. <br /> <br /> (b) The purchase of an additional ambulance to add to the existing fleet will <br />allow the Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services to have a fifth unit <br />available in the case of mechanical failure and for special events. This grant requires a <br />cash match of 56%, or $46,304. <br /> <br /> <br />
