February 9, 1909. <br /> <br /> The eighth, ninth, <br /> <br /> The Committee <br />stitute was adopted: <br /> <br />tenth, eleventh and twelfth sections were adopted as reconm~ended by the Com- <br />recommended the following substitute for section thirteenth, and the said sub- <br /> <br /> · Thirteenth. The approaches to the ferry.boats are to be kept as olean as practicable, and boats <br />and waiting rooms are to be well lighted, hemted, ventilated and tidy, to satisfaction of the joint <br />Ferry Committee of the City and County; and any failure to observe the conditions of this section <br />shall subjeet the lessee to a fine of $5 (one-half of the fine to go to the City and one-half to the <br />0ounty), after a ten days' notice of said failure to the lessee or manager of the ferries by said <br /> <br />Committee. <br /> The fourteenth section w~s adopted as recommended by the 0ommittee. <br /> <br /> The fifteenth section of printeA schedule was eliminated by the Joint committee and the follow- <br />ing substitute made for the same: <br /> <br /> Fifteenth. The lessee shall at all times provide boats of sufficient capacity and of suffi- <br />cient number to accommodate the travelling public. The recommendation of the Committee was'adopted. <br /> <br /> Section sixteenth was adopted as recommended, <br /> foot of <br /> In regard to the question referred to the Oommittee as to the use of~High and Queenstreets for <br /> <br />ferry purposes, without any proposed compensation to the City therefor, it was answered, That She <br />0fry Attorney had said that the matter of compensatdon eould be arranged after a lease of the fer- <br />ries Shall have been made. Thereupon, the Ferry Oommittee~and the Oi~yA~torney were instructed <br />%o look out for the matter of compensation for use of High and Queen streets. <br /> <br /> The Committee were also of opinion that the petition of citizens of Berkley for be~ter ~ermi- <br />hal facilities at the Ohestnut street dock is provided for in section ten of the sohedule~ and this <br />opinion was adopted by the Council. <br /> <br /> Ooncerning the provision dn section ninth %o meet an increased tax on the ferry Properties~ <br />the Committee recommended that th~ ~onnoil of the Oit, y of Norfolk be requested not' to increase the <br />license tax on the Norfolk terminals of the ~erries, in consideration of the inereas~& facilities <br />to be given Norfolk by eonditions of the new lease. Concurred in. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Treasurer to borrow $2,500 from the Bond Sinking Fund, Ooneurred in. <br /> <br /> The Boar~ of Aldermen failed to concur in adept!eh of the "Rummage Sale Ordinanse,~ ~dopted by <br />the Oommon Council, but recommitted the same for further consideration. <br /> <br /> Mr. Nelton moved that this body adhere to its former action in mdopting the ordinance, and his <br />motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> Second.
