<br />of Portsmouth the sum of ~ per cent. per annum on his gross receipts, from the sale of electricity
<br />in said 0ity, it being understood and agreed, however, that the amount paid or payableto the said
<br />contractor by the City of Portsmouth, for its street lighting and public building service, shall be
<br />deducted from saf& gross receip~$s a~d the said 3 per cent. shall be calculated after said deduction.
<br />It is understood and agreed that the City of Portsmouth shall have access to the books and accounts

<br />of said contractor for the purpose of ascertaining his gross receipts, through its Oity Auditor or

<br />othe^pers0n or persons who may be designated by the City for that purpose.

<br /> Xll. The service' shall be extended to citizens residing within the present limits'of the Ofty
<br />or future limits of the same on the following ccnddtions: Overhead extensions shall be made where
<br />four (4) responsible persons within-500 foot'shall make wrftten, reu_uest for same and shall sign a
<br />contract for one year's use of the current; and underground extension for 500 feet shall be made
<br />where eight (8) responsible persons within 500 feet shall make written request for and signa one
<br />year's contract for ~me. Every~verhead or underground application shall be a~¢ompanied with writ-
<br />ten permission of-the owner of the-property, allowing tbs company, or the applicant, the' right to
<br />enter on the property and place wires for the purpose of furnishing current.-

<br /> llll. To maintain at the subscriber's service Cut=in~ a voltage variation not exceeding ]½ per
<br />cent. plus or m~nus. The mean voltage at e~ch Subscriber's ~ Cutain to b'e determined by the contrac-
<br />tor for each individual ~ut-in, a~d to be stated i~ the contract subscribed to by the party contract-
<br />ing for the same.

<br /> XIV. It is ~further understood and agreed that the City of Portsmouth shaI1 have the right to
<br />appoint an inspector, or inspectors, of electric meters, whose duty shall be, when so required, in
<br />conjunction with the inspector of the contractor, to inspect, examine and prove any and all elec-
<br />tric metersand Out-ins used or to'be'used for measuring the quantity of electric current furnished
<br />for either light, h. eat or power'to or for the use of any consumers within t~m present limits or fu=
<br />ture limits of the said City; and if.any meter or meters of any consumer, so examined. Shall be
<br />found defective er insorrect, more tha~ 2~per cent. plus or mi~us, %he same shall be forthwith re-
<br />moved and re~laced with softest ones. The fee paid the inspector for examining and proving each
<br />meter must be paid.by the consumer, unless the meter is found detective, in which ~ase the cost
<br />must be paid by the contractor~ unless inspected b~fore Used, in which case one-half of the inspec-
