Brinson, the 0ity Engineer was inst~.ote~ to make <br />hexed territory and put said map to record, <br /> <br /> The Keeper of Cemeteries made the following report <br /> <br />cemetery during the month of February, 1909: <br /> <br /> February l, to ~w~m~a Rowe S. H. of No, 341, <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS. <br /> <br /> A~ invitation was read <br />on the evening of April 5th, and the invitation w~s.accepted with thanks. <br /> The following communication was read from the Board of nea±~n. <br /> "Portsmouth, Va., ~rch 2, <br /> <br />from the Hook a~d Ladder 0ompany to the Co~ucil' to attend its <br /> <br />~social" <br /> <br />1909. <br /> <br /> "Hon. City Council. <br /> '~ent lemon: <br /> "At a meeting of the Board of Health N~rch 2d the following re- <br /> contract <br />quests were. made of you: <br /> ~First, To give the Board Aut. h~r~ity to mdv~ertise for bids for a night-soil~to run from N~y l, <br />19 o9. <br /> · Second. To have prepared an ordinanGe requiring all milk rooms, dairy lunch counters and ba- <br />kery counters to be properly screened from flies and mosquitoes. <br /> "Third. To permit the Board to appoint an assmstant Sa~m~a $ InsDector at a salary .of $60 per <br />month, <br /> "Fourth. To take up for consideration the Health'Ordinances submitted some months since. <br /> "Respectfully, <br /> "Z. P. Slater, SectY." <br /> <br /> ~ · <br /> On motion, the request of the Board for authority ~o advertmse for bids for ~removal of night- <br /> soil was granted; for an ordinance requiring screens from flies ~nd mosquitoes, and to take~ up for <br /> consideration the Health Drdinances, were referred to the Joint Ordi~noe ~ommittee; and the request <br /> for an assistant Sanitary inspector was refe~rred to the Joint Finance Committee. <br /> Mr. Hawks moved that when a committees is unanimous in recommending an award to a bidder the <br /> 01erk or the Treasurer, as the ease m~y be. ho!di~g the certified checks o~ bidders shall return <br /> to the unsuccessful bidders their checks at once. The motion was adopted. <br /> gr. Hutchins wished to know whether plans and specification for a Clerk's office had ever been <br /> accepted by the Coun~mlo The 01erk answered that they had been~ so accepted. <br /> ~ertupon, Mr. ~atts moved that the Joint Public Property 0ommittee be instructed to go over <br /> ~ new matter. ~he motion was .adopted. <br /> the plans and specifications again, treat_rig them as <br /> N~r. Brinson moved that the Joint l~b~mo ~roperty Committee be inst~acted to confer ~ith the <br /> Norfolk 0ounty Board of Supervisors.' with a view of redividing the Court House so to give the City <br /> the eastern half, and the 0ouniy the western half of same. The motion was adopted. <br /> On motion of Mr. Hawks, the Joint Sewerage Oommittee was instructed to our~nase additional sew- <br /> erage machinery, m~de necessary because of sewering the Fifth ~ard, and that the proper officers <br /> should sign contracts for the same. <br /> The question having been asked as to what progress ha~ been made towards the condemnation of <br /> land at sou~h end of Cr~wf~m~l street, Mr.' Tyler moved, That unless the City Attorney should insti- <br /> tute proceedings for condemantion of said land in less than sixty days the Joint Street Committee <br />~ be authorized to employ adddtional counsel in the matter. <br /> Nr. Withy moved to amend, That the Oity Attorney be notified to appear before the <br /> <br />its next meeting mhd give <br /> <br /> Council at <br />some reason why he has delayed in taking condemnation proeeeding~ for as- <br /> <br />quit!rig the land. <br /> ~ +~ ~ ~ hv ~r.
