Howard Hall, Nontague and Browne were <br />appointed the committee. <br /> <br /> The Committee retired and the body took a recess pending its report. <br /> <br /> The e0mmittee returned-and~ reported that after a discussion of the lease with the Board of Su- <br />pervisors they, the committee, had concluded to recommend that a contract for the lease be made with <br />R. E. Jordan; but that the Board of Supervisors was opposed thereto. <br /> <br /> Er. Welton moved that the recommendation of the committee be adopted. <br /> <br /> ~. Withy moved to amend, that the bid of R. E. Jordan be rejected and av~rd made to the next <br /> <br />highest bidder, W. T. 01d, representing the Portsmouth & Norfolk Corporation. <br /> The amendment by I&r. Withy was lost. <br /> <br /> Nr. Hawks then moved that the contract be awarded to R. E. Jordan, <br /> <br /> Er. Jno. Howard Hail wished to know whether it would not be necessary for the 0ouneil to re- <br />se!nd its action of last night in regard to the lease before entertaining a motion to ma~e award of <br />same to ~Lr. Jordan. <br /> <br /> The Chair concurred with ~Lr. Hall in this view of the matter. <br /> <br /> ,Whereupon, Er. Hawks moved that the 0ouncil reconsider its action of Narch 30th in awarding <br />the lease of the Norfolk County Ferries to Reid & 0o.. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> Nr. Hawks then moved that the lease be made to R. E. Jordan and that a contract for same be <br />dramm with him accordingly. The motion was adopted by a vote of l? to 4. <br /> <br /> On motion of Er. Heritage. e, the committee which had just conferred m~th the Board of Supervisors <br />was sent into them again to m~o~ke known the action of this body concerning the lease. <br /> <br /> The committee returned and reported that the Board of Supervisors had adjourned. <br /> <br /> Finally, however, the Board of Supervisors replied through their Commonwealth Attoi-ney that <br />they accepted the proposition of the Council to award the lease of the Ferries to R. E. Jordan; <br /> <br /> On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
