Tom Bishop; 2i9 York Drive, spoke on cost of golf for <br />children under 12 years old, and a need for a putt putt golf <br />course at City Park. <br /> <br />389 <br /> <br />CITY~ANAGER'S REPORT - <br /> <br />94-206 - Letter from the City Manager recoum%ending adoption of <br />an ordinance to appropriate $276,125 from the Capital <br />Improvements Fund to repave Portsmouth Boulevard beginning at <br />the Hodges Ferry Bridge towards City Park Avenue, and a motion <br />to award the contract to APAC-Virginia. <br /> <br /> "As part of our on-going street overlay and maintenance <br />program, bids were received on June 1, 1994 as indicated on <br />Attachment No. 1 for repaying Portsmouth Boulevard beginning at <br />the Hodges Ferry Bridge toward City Park Avenue. <br /> <br />The total anticipated project costs are as follows: <br /> <br />Construction Contract (APAC-Virginia) <br />Contract Administration <br /> <br />$266,125 <br />$ 10,000 <br /> <br />TOTAL ANTICIPATED PROJECT COST <br /> <br />$276,125 <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Works recommends that a construction <br />contract be awarded to the low bidder, APAC-Virginia, and that <br />$276,125 be appropriated from the Capital Improvements <br />contingency fund. <br /> <br /> I concur with the Director of Public Works and, with your <br />approval of this item, the balance in the Capital Improvements <br />Fund will be $11,216,991." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, to adopt <br />the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $276, 125.00 FROM THE CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENTS FUND TO RE-PAVE PORTSMOUTH BOULEVARD FROM THE <br />HODGES FERRY BRIDGE TO APPROXIMATELY CITY PARK AVENUE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to award the <br />repaying contract to APAC-Virginia, and was adopted by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, King,' Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />94-207 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />an ordinance to appropriate $50,000 in contingencies as a result <br />of the extra expense incurred during asbestos removal at the <br />former Fsanous Department Store which is being renovated. <br /> <br /> "The former Famous Department Store building is presently <br />being renovated to house the TCC Fine Arts Center. During the <br />asbestos removal process, asbestos residue was discovered in the <br />existing ceiling which necessitated removal as contaminated <br />material. Unfortunately, this work required the expenditure of <br />all the funds set aside for contingencies for the project. <br />Therefore, it is requested that an additional $50,000 in <br />contingencies be appropriated for the remainder of the <br />renovation project. <br /> <br /> <br />
