Tom Bishop; 2i9 York Drive, spoke on cost of golf for children under 12 years old, and a need for a putt putt golf course at City Park. 389 CITY~ANAGER'S REPORT - 94-206 - Letter from the City Manager recoum%ending adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $276,125 from the Capital Improvements Fund to repave Portsmouth Boulevard beginning at the Hodges Ferry Bridge towards City Park Avenue, and a motion to award the contract to APAC-Virginia. "As part of our on-going street overlay and maintenance program, bids were received on June 1, 1994 as indicated on Attachment No. 1 for repaying Portsmouth Boulevard beginning at the Hodges Ferry Bridge toward City Park Avenue. The total anticipated project costs are as follows: Construction Contract (APAC-Virginia) Contract Administration $266,125 $ 10,000 TOTAL ANTICIPATED PROJECT COST $276,125 The Director of Public Works recommends that a construction contract be awarded to the low bidder, APAC-Virginia, and that $276,125 be appropriated from the Capital Improvements contingency fund. I concur with the Director of Public Works and, with your approval of this item, the balance in the Capital Improvements Fund will be $11,216,991." Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $276, 125.00 FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS FUND TO RE-PAVE PORTSMOUTH BOULEVARD FROM THE HODGES FERRY BRIDGE TO APPROXIMATELY CITY PARK AVENUE." Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb Nays: None Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to award the repaying contract to APAC-Virginia, and was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, King,' Pitts, Webb Nays: None 94-207 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $50,000 in contingencies as a result of the extra expense incurred during asbestos removal at the former Fsanous Department Store which is being renovated. "The former Famous Department Store building is presently being renovated to house the TCC Fine Arts Center. During the asbestos removal process, asbestos residue was discovered in the existing ceiling which necessitated removal as contaminated material. Unfortunately, this work required the expenditure of all the funds set aside for contingencies for the project. Therefore, it is requested that an additional $50,000 in contingencies be appropriated for the remainder of the renovation project.
