388 <br /> <br />June 14,~ 1994 <br /> <br /> At a Regular Meeting Of the City Council held on Tuesday, <br />June 14, 1994, there were p~sent~ <br /> <br /> Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Lee E. King, Johnny M. <br />Clemons, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., James C. Hawks, Cameron C. <br />Pitts, V. Wayne Orton,'City Manager, Stuart E. Katz, City <br />Attorney. <br /> <br /> Amber Hudson and Marquhne Johnson, 4th Grade Students, <br />Highland Biltmore Elementary School, opened the meeting with <br />prayer which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the <br />Flag. - - <br /> <br /> Mayor Webb called the meeting to order and'welComed all <br />attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, the <br />minutes of a called meeting on May 24, 1994; and a Regular <br />Meeting on May 24, 1994; were approved, and was adopted by <br /> <br />94-202 Presentation of special pins to newly appointed Boards <br />and Commissions members. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to change <br />the order of business to consider the Public Hearing items <br />preceding the non-agenda speakers, and was adopted by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING - <br /> <br />The following Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority <br />members were present: <br /> <br />P. Ward Robinett, Jr., Chairman <br />Junius H. Williams, Jr. <br />Ernest F. Hardee <br />Sandie Lee Sprinkle <br />George K. Eberwine, Jr. <br />Danny Cruce, Executive Director <br /> <br />94-204 - Joint Public Hearing to obtain citizens' view and <br />comments on the proposed reprogramming of funds from the 1992 <br />and 1993 Community Development Block Grant years for use during <br />the 1994 Community Development Prograph year. <br /> <br />There were no speakers. <br /> <br />94-205 - Joint Public Hearing to solicit community-wide input <br />in identifying community problems and how coordinated federal, <br />state and local resources can be used to provide a meaningful <br />and lasting revitalization affecting economic development, <br />social/human services, transportation, housing, pubic safety, <br />drug abuse prevention, sustainable commUnitY development, and <br />educational andenvironmental concerns. <br /> <br />Gall Bishop, 219 York Drive, questioned whether community wide <br />input had been solicited for the application. <br /> <br />94-203 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Karen Jordan, 107 Elmhurst Court, spoke on curbs and <br />gutters in the Simonsdale community, <br /> <br />2. Lloyd Beazley, 3186 Reese Drive, spoke on information <br />printed by the newspaper on the retirement benefits of Sheriff <br />Gary Waters. <br /> <br /> <br />
