February 21, 1911. Streets-- Hon. Board of Atder~en. Gentlemen:--Your c~ncerning the following matters referred to cil the Joint Referred by Common Council (¥;ith City Attorney). Street Committee respectfully reports ~herein Street Committee January 10-!?th and previous: January 10th. the incorporation of County street entirely in the Sixth the hands of the Committee, having been referred by the Coun- A request of the Traction Company for a re-~rrangement of its tracks in the City. An application of J. C~ l¥ainwright & Son to sell shells to the City. A proposal of the Board of Supervisors of Norfolk County to have the expense of macadm~nising Glasgow street extended. -This matter has been referred to the City Engineer to ascertain Progress. Progress. City join the County in the cost of curbing, gut- ~ering and macadamising Glasgow street, from Godwin to the Scott Creek bridge. A communication from Edward Overman about the condition of the ~est Park View bridge. ~e report that the condition complained of by Mr. Overman has been relieved. To pave the south side of 'Wythe street, between Third and Fourth. Progress. A communication about the paving of the South ~treet Road, between Chestnut s~eei.and-the branch. Progress. We report further that the Portsmouth Coal & Ice Company has made application ~o hire the City steam roller at ~t0~ ~. ~ per month. It is recommended that the said anplication~ be granted, provide~ an approved bond for ~o00 be given the City for ~he return of the roller and equipments in as good condition ~di~q~~1~ r O~th~ S~ P0~ ~O~S~ ~h~l ~ ~ inspectmon- ~f ~heaSrollerwhen obtained;and a listl ~ ~ , en ~ ~sses ~nto the ~u~s of the Company and when ~t ~s returned to the City, and his statement concerning the condition of the s~me shall be accepted as correct by the said Portsmouth Coed & Ice Company. And we submit further the following communication from the Norfolk & Portsmouth Traction Co: "Street Committee, City Council~ ~December 20th, 1911. ~r. ~. R. Hawks, Chai_~man~ "Gentlemen:-- "Owing to the proposed increase of street lights for the City and the Sixth and Seventh V;ards, we find that it will be necessary to increase the number cf f~eders coming out of our Middle street station. "To relieve the situation on Middle street, near North street, we respectfully ask that per- mission be granted to place underground conduits in the lane in the rear of the sub station, known as Eastwood's Lane, to the intersection of North street, as per blue print attached. "Respectfully submitted, "~orfolk & Portsmouth Traction Co by Sup't. of Portsmouth Lt'g." Gentlemen:--Your Fire Committee respectfully reports herein con- cerning the following matters referred to the Joint Fire Committee January 10-17, 1911. Referred by Common Council January 10th. An application of the Union Fire Company for connection with the City Fire-alarm System at a cost of $4o0.00. It is recommende~ that the application be granted. Referred by Board of Aldermen J~uuary tTth. Bills of ~. & G. P~rker to amount of $18. for three tons of coal supplied the Fire Department previous to September l, 1910. We h~ve ex~mined these bills and recommend that they be paid. On motion, the report was Finance Committee. adopted and (Signed). ~, N.
