<br /> The report of the Committee having been read, on motion, the section relating to .the advisabil-
<br />ity of an ordinance to esta5~lish the office of Police Justice was referred to the Finance Committee
<br />to take into ~unsideration the creation of said office~
<br /> On motion of Mr. Nicholson, the ordinance to regulate traffic on the streets was ordered to lie
<br />on the table until the next regular meeting of the bedL
<br /> Then the recommendations of the Committee, as amended, were adopted by the following vote,
<br />the vote being the same for each recommendation:

<br /> Instructed to look into the several kinds of "~hite Way" lighting, and to ascertain th~ costs
<br />of same.
<br /> We report that we have looked into thi~ matter and recommend a fi~e circuit electric lamp
<br />for the purpose, the four bottom lights of same to burn until la o'clock midnight, and the top light
<br />to burn all night.
<br />
<br /> (With Finance Committee and City Attorney). 'Instructed to draft a contract for continuing the
<br />"White Way" on High street, between Water and Chestnut streets, when same Shall have been adopted
<br />by the two branches of Council. Progress as to same.
<br />
<br /> (In connection with our report on the "~q~ite Way," we submit a communicati.on fro~the Vir-
<br />ginia Railway and Power Company concerning same).
<br />

<br /> Advisability of purchasing a Sharp Miller portable meter., and the employment of some one to test
<br />electric, gas, and water meters.
<br /> It is ~ecommended that the Committee be authorized to advertise for bids to purchase said
<br />meter.

<br /> A request of the Sixth Wa~d Board for four additional lights at the intersection of Count~ attest
<br />with Pearl, County with Pine, Oounty with Armstrong, and County with Godwin.
<br /> It is recommended that lights be placed at the corners of County and Pearl, County and
<br />Pine, and Armstrong and Reed streets, to be paid for out of Sixth Ward funds.

<br /> The report having been read, Mr. Nicholson moved to reject all the propositions offered by the
<br /> Virginia Pailway & Power Oompany for lighting the "White Way," and to refer the matter back to the
<br /> Light Committee.
<br /> Mr. Davis moved to amend by referring t~Light Committee, with power to investigate, the whole
<br /> matter of lighting High street by either electricity or gas~ and also the manner of lighting.
<br />' Mr. Markham moved to amend ~o ~mpower the Committee to advertise for bids for lighting High,
<br />Effingham, and County streets.
<br /> The amendment by ~. Davis was adopted, and then the report of the Committe~, as amended,
<br /> was adopted.
