Advisability of disposing of a balky hor~e in use by the Independent fire company. Progress as to same. Referred by Common Council February 13th. Instructed to report at next meet£ng of Council in regard to building a fire company house on Lincoln street. Progress. Referred by Board of Aldermen February BOth. Advisability of ~-building code and of having Chief of Inspector. We ask for further instructions concernzno same. the Fire Department act as a Building Advisability of employing a reasonable number of ~catled men" for the Fire Department. We report that we do not approve of having "called men," but it is recommended instead that 3 additional full paid men be employed, one each at the Independent~ Chambers, and Park View fire companies. To require the present paid men of the Fire Department to assist the Chief in examining all yards and the surroundings of buildings in the fire district. it is recommended that the Chief be instructed to examine all yards and surroundings of buildings, with the assistance of any paid men of the Fire Department detailed by him for the purpose. are Advisability of having the paid men of the Fire Department uniformed. A request of the Portsmouth Rental Agents Association for an amendment to section 1, chapter 5, of the ordinances, so as to fix responsibility on the occupant for stoppage of sewers. We report that we are of the opinion that such an ordinance is inadvisable, believing that the petitioners have the right under the law to protect themselves in this matter.
