November <br /> <br /> We report that the condition o£ this drain pipe has been remedied. <br /> Condition of iron grating at the corner of Henry and First streets. <br /> We have instructed the City Engineer to remedy this condition. <br /> To'provide a granolithic sidewalk on the south side of Queen street, from Effingham to Chestnut. <br /> Progress~ <br /> ~ith Finance Committee and Seventh Ward Board). I~mProvement of the roadway of Chestnut street, <br /> from South to. Lincoln. From <br /> It is recommended that Chestnut street, f~om South to Lincoln, be paved as follows: <br /> South to Griffin, full width of roadway, with Dollarway pavement; from Griffin street t~Race ave- <br /> nue, 1S feet of roadway, with Dollarway pavement; from Race avenue to Lincoln street, 15 feet of <br /> roadway, with Dollarway pavement; and the said pavement, to be set with granite curbing from South to <br /> Griffin. It is further recommended that an appropriation of $5,000.00 be allowed for this work, pro- <br /> vided that the Seventh Ward will appropriate the balance to complete the work. <br /> ~dvisability of paving the roadway of Jefferson street, between Fourth and Sixth. A requestof the Civic League to have parked the unpaved portion of <br />-the roadway of Effingham street, between Glasgow and H~gh, and for an 4ppropriati~n of $10.00 or $~0. <br /> for trees and shrubs to plant in same. <br /> We recommend that, as the proposition is not practicable, the request be not granted. <br /> Referred by Board of Aldermen October 15th. <br /> <br /> To investigate and.report concerning two bills of the Street Department for six cords of wood <br /> and two tons of coal supplied at the Incinerator between August 19-25th. <br /> We are informed by the City Engineer that Mr. Paul ~hitehurst, Superintendent of the Incine- <br />rator, was responsible for this. irregularity (see attached statement of the Engineer which explains <br />litself). Mr. Whitehurst's attention has been called to the matter and he states that the same will <br /> not occur again. Under the circumstances, we recommend that the bills be allowed. <br /> A communication from the City Engineer to Chairman of the Street Committee concerning the paving <br /> of Chestnut street. Montague, <br /> Chairman B. of A. <br /> <br /> The report having been~sa~, the Vice-Chairman of the Committee stated that he ~as necessarily <br /> absent when the report was agreed to, or he certainly would have objected to the sections in regard <br /> to paving the south side of Glasgow street,.fromEffingham to Chestnut, and paving with Dollarway the <br /> roadway of Chestnut street, from South to L~ncoln. TherefOre, he would move to recommit said sections. <br /> The matter was discussed by Messrs. Davis and Williams for, and Mr. Montague agains~ adoption of <br /> the recommendation as to paving of Glasgow street. <br /> Mr. Davis then moved to amend to refer the matter of paving of Chestnut street, from South to <br />ILincoln .back to the Committee, but to adopt the remainder of the report. The motion was adopted. <br /> Then the report of the Committee, as amended, was adopted, th~ recommended appropriations <br /> being referred to Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> Public Property~ <br /> Hon. Board of Aldermen. Gentlemen:~ Your Public Property Committee respect- <br /> <br />fully reports herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Public Property Committee <br /> <br />October 8~i5 and September 17, 191E: <br /> <br /> (With Finance Committee). <br />said caretaker.
