Board of Aldermen. for awnings Gentlemen:~ Tour Ordinance Committee respectfully following matters referred to the Joint Ordinance Committee June 10 and ports herein concerning the January B1, 1913: Referred by Common Council June 10th. An ordinance to authorize the Board of Police Commissioners to appoint Officer Pearl J. Wilson a Desk Sergeant, without extra compensation for same. It is recommended that the following ordinance be adopted therefor: . A communication from Central Methodist and South Street Baptist Ch~rches requesting passage of a "segregation ordinance." It is recommended that the following "segregation ordinance" be adopted therefor: An Ordinance to Adopt the Provisions of the Act of the General Assembly of Virginia, Entitled, "An Act to Provide for Designation by Cities and ToYrns of Segregation Districts for Residence of White and Colored Persons; ~or the Adoption of this Ac~ by Such Cities and Towns, and for Penalties for the Violation of its Terms,. The report having been read, the ordinance with regard to appointment of a Desk Sergeant was sent back to the Committee with the Board of Police Commissioners, with instructions to state defi- nitely the pay of such Desk Sergeant. On motion, the "segregation ordinance" was ordered to lie on the table until'next regular meet- ing of body, and the appropriation of $300.00 asked for in said ordinance was referred to Finance Committee. ' Then the report of the Committee, as amended, was adopted. On motion of 3tr. ~o'ore, the rules were suspended to take up the report adopted in the Common Council in regard to the Seaboard Air Line Railway offices, but the report having been presented b~ the Clerk, the Vice-Chairman of the Council Committee for said ~eaboard Air Line Offices stated that the. report as presented had not been agreed upon'by the Committee and therefore he would .not offer it for adoption.
