<br /> ~. Johnson moved that the Committee on Street Car Routes, Trackage, ac., be instructed to
<br />consider several points where general street car transfers should be made.
<br /> The motion was adopted.

<br /> A ~com~unication was read from the City Treasurer, in which~he~urged an immediate appropri~-
<br />ation of $69§.55 to pay the City proportion of salary of Circnit judge and $1EB0.O0 for salary
<br />of the Corporaticn judge, for the year beginning February 1, t91$, because if~such salaries were
<br />not paid by December l, 1911 he, said Treasurer, would have to pay to the State a penalty of
<br />10% for failure to pay said salaries.
<br /> Whereupon, on motion, the appropriations for said salaries were allowed, and by the
<br />following vote:

<br />folk Water Co., as to condition o~ ~ater main, service pipe, ac., on the South street road," and
<br />said correspondence was retD~ned to the said Board for further consideration with the City Attor-
<br />ney.

<br />M~r. H. H. Parker presented for the ~'Sixth ~rd Local Board the following matters:

<br />1. To know if the Siith ~ard is receiving credit for its taxes from property transferred
<br />County street to the Sixth Ward, and also from the property located in the tri-angular sec-
<br />of the.Ward east of Chestnut street and north of High street to the boundary line.
<br />
<br /> ~. To ascertain the liability of theT~actiOn Company for part payment of cost of the con-
<br />crete culvert at the Scott Creek bridge, on High street.
<br />

<br /> On motions, the first request was referred to the Finance Committee;

<br /> A commtu~.ication was read from the Board of Health in which they called attention to the
<br />condition of several lately paved streets, and on motion the cor~unic~tion was referred to the
<br />Joint Street Committee with the ~City Engineer.

<br /> Mr. Brinson presented the following resolution in regard to the revision and recodification
<br />of the City Ordinances:
<br /> "Whereas, the councils of the city o£ Portsmouth may propose making a
<br />new codification of the city ordinances; and,
<br /> "Whereas, in so doing changes will be made in many of the present ordinances; and,
<br /> "Whereas, the charter requires all ordinances prescribing a penalty to be published for
<br />five days successively in one newspaper; and
<br /> "Whereas, it will be impracticable to publish the ordinances so changed in the newspaper,
<br />and it is desirable to provide for this and future codifications: therefore,
<br /> "~. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia~ That whenever the councils of the
<br />city of Portsmouth shall codify and print in book form the ordinances of the city, it shall be
<br />unnecessary to publish any new or changed ordinances therein contained in a newspaper, and all
<br />ordinances therein contained shall take effect after the said codifications shall have been
<br />printed in book form and notice of the fast that said codification has been printed in book
<br />form, and that the same may be seen at the city Clerk's office, shall have been published for
<br />five days successively in one of the daily newspapers published in the city of Portsmouth.

<br /> On motion, the resolution was adopted and referred to the City ~ttorney for examination
<br />and report.

<br />chased for colored quarters at the Almshouse.

<br /> On motion of Mr. Tyler, the advisability of laying a sidewalk on the south side of Ran-
<br />dolph street, between First and Second, was referred to the Street Committee.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brinson moved that the i~t e~ned by the City on Lincoln street be sold at public auc-
<br />tion to the highest bidde~.
<br /> Mr. Reynolds stated that he was epposed to selling the lot, and on motion of ~. Hawks
<br />the Public Property Committee was instructed to consider the advisability of selling the lot
<br />and to make a report of the same to the Council.
<br />
<br /> The Chairman of the Public Property .Oommittee asked that him Committee be authorized to ad-
<br />vertise for bids to move the "Armistead houseP1:nex~ to the court house yard, back from its pre-
<br />sent location.
<br /> On motion, the request was granted.
